Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find answers to the questions we get asked the most about our treatments
IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light”.
An intense (bright), short pulse of light is used to heat the target condition, causing it to break down and become absorbed by the body. We use IPL to treat various conditions, including Permanent Hair Reduction, Pigmentation Reduction, Acne Treatment, Skin Rejuvenation and much more.
IPL treatments have been proven to help reduce the appearance of many skin conditions, but ultimately varies from person to person and treatment to treatment. The effectiveness of your treatment will be discussed during your consultation.
IPL is considered to be a safe treatment, if performed by a trained practitioner. At Puro Aesthetics, all staff are trained by Lynton, who have recently been awarded best manufacturers and Training Provider in 2019.
At Puro Aesthetics, we only use the best equipment possible on our clients, ensuring we deliver safe treatments that provide outstanding results. We chose the Lynton EXCELIGHT IPL for a number of reasons, which include the quality of the result achievable but also because of the high level of training provided.
Some people like IPL to a small elastic band snapping on the skin, followed by a warm sensation. This varies from person to person and the setting selected, which is why we perform a patch test.
IP, like any treatment, can never be 100% safe. There is a small risk of burning (similar to sunburn) and allergic reactions. These risks are minimised by performing a patch test a minimum of 24 hours prior to treatment.
Your skin may look red or feel slightly swollen after treatment, but it should subside very quickly. On rare occasions, a small blister may form or your skin may experience temporary lightening or darkening. However, in most cases, many people don’t experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.
During a consultation, you will discuss your needs with your practitioner to determine whether or not you are suitable for treatment. If you are suitable, a patch test will be carried out. A patch test is a mini treatment to see how you respond. If you have no negative reaction, you may proceed with the full treatment.
For best results with hair reduction, we advise a minimum of 6 treatments spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart. However, it can vary from person to person, as some may need more.
For Pigmentation and Acne treatments, we recommend 3-6 treatments, spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart for Pigmentation treatments and 1-2 weeks for Acne treatments.
Once a course of treatment has been completed, most conditions will also require maintenance treatments that can vary from 6 months to every few years.
This will be discussed during your consultation, You must be open and honest with your practitioner to ensure that you are safe to have the procedure.
